How to Cite
How to Cite
The site is designed so that every major claim can be cited as a stable, verified knowledge unit. Below are the recommended formats for scholarly and research publications.
1. Citing a Whole Page
Recommended format:
Kleptopedia. “[Page Title].” Kleptopedia Knowledge Base, URL (accessed YYYY-MM-DD).
Example:
Kleptopedia. “Kleptocratic Extraction.” Kleptopedia Knowledge Base,
https://kleptopedia.pages.dev/en/mechanisms/kleptocratic-extraction/(accessed 2026-09-07).
2. Citing a Specific Knowledge Unit
Knowledge Units are atomic (claim + sources + context). When citing a specific unit by its identifier (KU-ID), reference it alongside the page title and URL:
Example:
Kleptopedia. Knowledge Unit KU-KE-03 (“State control of key resource rents under the vertical of power”). In: “Kleptocratic Extraction,” Kleptopedia Knowledge Base, URL.
3. Citing a Relationship Catalogue or Entity Card
Structured catalogues and entity cards are cited like standard analytical pages with an entry locator:
Kleptopedia. “Siloviki – documented links to criminal networks.” In: “Relationships: Siloviki,” Kleptopedia Knowledge Base, URL.
4. Citing Underlying Primary or Secondary Sources
The site is an analytical synthesis of open-source intelligence and academic records. For legal, judicial, or peer-reviewed scholarship, researchers should directly consult the primary and secondary sources (Dawisha, Galeotti, UNODC, OCCRP, court dockets, and sanctions registries) cited on each page. Kleptopedia should be cited when referencing the structural synthesis, relational model, or specific knowledge units.
